THE AUDACITY: Missouri Races to Execute Marcellus Williams Despite Agreed Life Sentence

The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) reports:
Missouri’s bloodthirsty judicial machine is at it again, proving that the state cares far more about finality than actual justice. Governor Mike Parson seems determined to proceed with executing Marcellus Williams even after prosecutors and courts agreed to a life sentence context.
LDF’s President and Director-Counsel Janai Nelson has sent a letter to Missouri’s Governor Parson, urging him to stop the execution of Marcellus “Khalifah” Williams scheduled for September 24, 2024. Last month, the Circuit Court of St. Louis County entered a consent judgment accepting the Alford plea of Mr. Williams and sentencing Mr. Williams to life
Executing a man despite prosecutorial consensus isn’t justice—it’s a state-sanctioned tragedy in real time.
